The Nine Planets

Before the beginning of humanity, before the age of the dinosaurs, before a single life form even began on Earth, the planets were very much alive. They were full of life and they each had their own ideals and beliefs. The planets all traveled in pairs; Mercury with Venus, Earth with Mars, Jupiter with Saturn, and Uranus with Neptune.  Every planet had another to be with, that is except for little Pluto. The Sun was the planets god and every day Pluto would go to him and ask the Sun to make him a friend too. The Sun always said that he could not for he only had the power to make nine. With each day Pluto grew more lonely and with each month that loneness turned into bitterness. Pluto tried being friends with Mercury and Venus, but they always acted too busy to even give Pluto the time of day. He tried Earth and Mars and they talked to him although they always kept their conversations short and seemed to ditch him whenever they got the chance. He tried Jupiter and Saturn, this was perhaps the most discouraging time for they laughed at the thought of having such a small and pitiful planet even in their gravitational pull. The last pair he tried was Uranus and Neptune, they seemed the friendliest out of all the planets. They talked to Pluto and made him feel good about himself. Soon after he stopped going to the Sun with his request and that made the Sun happy for now all of his planet children were happy.

One day Neptune and Uranus asked Pluto to do something unspeakable. It seemed that all the other planets were planning to kill the sun and use his power to grant their wishes. They heard of some planets in another solar system accomplish such a task. Although the Sun was reveared as a god, he was in all actuality not a god at all. He had just been the one that created them, now that’s not to say he wasn’t very powerful. It would take all the planets combined effort to stand up to their creator. The Sun trusted Pluto more than any of the other planets for he knew what kind of pain Pluto went through. Neptune and Uranus knew this very well and were going to use this to their advantage. They gave Pluto a poison they had been working on and told him to hide it in his core. Pluto did not want to do this for he liked the Sun a great deal but also he did not want to lose his only friends. He thought to himself, what if I could become friends with the sun himself? He decided to do what Neptune and Uranus asked but also ask the sun if he thought they could be friends. It was simple, if the Sun said yes then he would help him, if he said no then he would poison him. Pluto had been alone far too long for him to go back to such a life.

On the day of the plan Pluto went to the Sun. Uranus and Neptune both told him that the poison would not kill the Sun, just weaken him so he would need to get out of their fast and leave the rest to them. This made Pluto feel good because this meant that they did care if he died. Pluto asked the Sun if he thought that they could be friends. The Sun replied that they could and that he was waiting for him to ask for the longest time. Now by this time Pluto was supposed to have poisoned the sun but did not for he could not decide what to do. If he did this then no doubt the other planets would like Pluto and he would have 6 more new friends to be with. There was another part of him telling him that he should not do this because the Sun was their creator and maybe even cared about him the most. As Pluto was thinking about this the attack started. Mercury and Venus both came from the left caring a huge asteroid and plunged it at the Sun, this had no effect except to anger the Sun. Earth came from the top dumping water out at the Sun but took care not to use it all. Mars came from the side squirting every last drop of water he had. This seemed to bother the Sun but in no way did this weaken the Sun. The Sun shouted that his children had gone mad and began to burn hotter and brighter. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, and Pluto backed away. This was never going to work and the four gas planets knew it. They actualy had their own plan and the rock planets were just their pawns. They still had no idea that Pluto didn’t poison the Sun so they were astounded at what kind of power the Sun had. They did not waiver from their plans though and went into formation. Jupiter moved in front of the Sun. Saturn moved behind the Sun. Neptune was on the right and Uranus was on the left. They had an ingenious plan to take the power from the sun. They were going to shoot their gases at the sun so that the sun would absorb them into his core. They knew that alone they could not prevail but together and in the Suns weakend state they would be able to take control of the sun and use his powers for themselves. Unfortionaly the Sun was not weaked so as soon as they shot there gases at him they were engulfed in the Suns flames. The Sun was furious and all the remaing planets thought they were going to die. The solar system was shaking and the Sun charged up for a mighty attack. He shot all four gas planets out and seemed calm once more. The rock planets were confused, why let the same planets that tried taking their powers come back into the universe. After a moment they realized what happened. They were no longer living planets, but lifeless planets that followed the Suns rotation. The Sun could not bare to kill his own children but could not allow them to have free will anymore. He looked upon the rock planets and bestowed punishment fitting for them. Mercury and Venus were to stay close to him so he could keep an eye on them. Mars was banished to a place where he could not fully feel the Suns warmth and love. He was proud of Earth for not using all of his water on him and gave him the best spot, a place that was not too cold but not too hot. This did not come without a price however for he had to take care of a whole system of creatures that would live on him for all eternity. Then there was Pluto, he wasn’t sure what to do with him. Pluto hadn’t really done anything to harm him, although after absorbing the gas planets and learning their knowledge he was aware of the poison. The Sun decided that we was too good for the title of planet, which was now garnished because of the other planets. So he had an idea, he would send him out as far away from the planets as possible so that he would not be mistaken as one. While the other planets had moon guardians watch over them for all eternity The Sun assigned a moon guardian to play with Pluto for all of eternity. He trusted Pluto and he left him with part of his will. He was still disappointed in Pluto for not telling him about the attack but couldn’t help but have sympathy for him. The Sun rested his eyes and fell asleep, knowing that even eventualy the creatures on Earth will not see Pluto as a planet. It is said that the Sun will wake up one day when it is needed yet again.
