chapter one

~Luis smiled as he looked out the window of the airship, he had always been inside the airship, he was born in the airship and had never set foot off of it. All he could do was look out the window at the clouds, it was all he could see, all he had ever seen. He sighed dreamily as he imagined walking on the clouds, he could only imagine them as soft, softer than any silk he had ever felt; Luis had felt some soft silk too, his family sold silk for a living. His father would take a large hover van which held sixty pounds of silk down to below the clouds, Luis was never aloud to go, his father told him it was too dangerous, he assured him on his eighteenth birthday that he would bring him along to sell silk so he could see what lay below the clouds. Luis was seventeen and his birthday was tomorrow, he smiled as he continued to stare outside his window looking at the shapes the clouds made.

Luis was a tall Caucasian boy, his hair was brown, he wore a deep blue silken shirt with a pure white vest over the shirt. On his feet he wore thick leather knee boots with the design of a large four legged animal barring his teeth; his father told him it was a design of a wolf. On his hands he wore light blue silk gloves. He was lean and toned, the silk machine was run on man power, Luis had to manually turn a large handle, the handle wasn't what made it so difficult though, it was the large gears inside the machine that made it so hard to move. His hair was a couple inches past his ear's, and his eyes were blue.

Luis looked behind him as his father opened the door to his room, he smiled at Luis who gladly reciprocated the gesture. Luis's father was a head taller than him with black hair and brown eyes, he wore green overalls and a blue jacket

His father nodded his head out of the room, "come on Luis, your aunt has dinner waiting for you."

Luis smiled as he nodded, "yes father" he got up off his bed and followed his father. "Father..."

His father looked at him with full attention, "yes Luis?"

Luis smiled sincerely, "you remembered that you are supposed to take me with you to-"

His father nodded, "to below the clouds yes I remember Luis don't worry, I won't forget you tomorrow."

Luis smiled as he and his father walked down the halls of the air ship to the kitchen. Ahead of them was a metal door with a small circle window at eye level with Luis, as they came towards the door it automatically opened for them, they both walked in to see their dinner on the table.

Luis's aunt turned to them with a smile, ""oh, there you are Luis, I was worried your dinner would grow cold before you arrived."

Luis nodded, "how long ago was dinner made?"

Luis's aunt turned away, "oh, about ten minutes or so."

Luis's eyes widened, he understood why his father came to get him now, his father didn't normally come and find him, Luis normally could smell the food and would come to the table, he was busy daydreaming though today.

Luis's aunt was a plump lady with dark curly red hair that stuck up everywhere, brown eyes, and five fat rolls on her neck alone. She wore a red silken dress with a white apron over the dress, and knee high boots on her feet. On the left side of her face was a huge mole right below her eye.

Luis's aunt brought them their food, which was rice soup and cheese pudding, the same as always. Luis suddenly wondered how real chickens looked, he doubted they looked anything like the food sitting in front of him, he began imagining what chickens looked like before they were turned into this, and how they got like this anyway.

Luis was brought back to reality by a firm hand grabbing his shoulder and shaking him a bit. Luis looked to see his father with a stern look in his eyes, "Luis, is everything alright?"

Luis smiled sheepishly as he nodded, "yes father, I just can't stop thinking about tomorrow."

Luis's aunt smiled, "excited about your birthday are you Luis?"

Luis shrugged, "I guess, I'm more excited for being able to see whats below the clouds though."

His aunt quickly frowned as she looked to his father, "your not actually going to take this boy down there are you James?"

Luis's father sighed as he looked to his sister, "yes Julian I am taking my son below the clouds, he's going to be old enough tomorrow and-"

"what if he gets killed James? It's dangerous down there you know, no place for a boy like him to be!"

Luis's father sighed, "Julian, this is a right of passage, besides I really just want to eat my dinner in peace if you don't mind."

Luis's aunt scoffed, "fine. But don't you think for a second that this is over James, because it's not."

James rolled his eyes as he glared at Luis.

Luis shrugged as he smiled sheepishly at his father, "sorry dad, I didn't know aunty would make such a big deal over this."

Everyone was silent throughout the rest of dinner. Luis was done fairly quickly, he could feel the tension between the two, this made him feel the need to leave the room before anything went down.

Luis turned from the sink to leave, however his aunt fixed him with a glare, "wash your dishes Luis, I'm not in the mood to wash others dishes tonight."

Luis nodded, he turned back to the sink, he walked over to the sink, rinsed his dishes off then placed them into the washer, turning it on before turning again to leave. Luis's aunt didn't even look at him this time as he walked out of the kitchen.

and once done he put his plate in the sink and walked out of the kitchen. He walked down the hallway to the very end, above him was a door with a spinning handle on it, he spun the handle, opened the door and climbed up the ladder. Luis came to he top of the airship, he smiled as he felt the wind against his skin. He put his arms out, letting the wind hit him, it was incredibly strong, he had magnetic shoes of course, so he stuck to the surface firmly, he walked across the surface against the wind, it stung; it felt good though, he barely noticed the stinging sensation he had on his skin.

He soon went back down below, he wanted to go back to his room and watch the clouds again. He walked into his room, and gently lay on his bed, watching the clouds from his window, and slowly fell asleep.
