Of Stalactites and Revelations

No more tears, the time for change has come,
For every cloud must fade sometime to light,
The power that he held is gone away,
Adrift again he lies upon the ocean.

Within a cave I slept in utter darkness,
Drawn in by clever words and empty promise,
The damp and dark became my only solace,
For all his reassurances were nothing.

And oh, that darkness drew me close to death,
For I forgot the light that shone outside,
And as the pain grew ever darker, still
I felt the cave was all I ever knew.

Alone and crying, he left me there to die,
But yet I lived, and yet I smiled again,
Captivity was but a distant echo,
As now I faced the long-awaited dawn.

But, thrust into the light one day, recoiling,
For damp and dark were all I thought were mine,
I saw the pain his inner grief had caused me,
And felt the unfamiliar summer warmth.

Your hatred turns my heart to pity, and
The tears you shed fall still upon my shoulder,
Yet the echo of your accusations fades,
My happiness, recovered, shall remain.
