Soliloquy

Tread no more the stage,

For all the boards are worn,

And all the audience have

Long ago departed.

Play no more the hero,

Nor the villain,

The colours of reality

Break forth beyond

Your cherished monochrome.

Let now the curtain fall

Upon that sad and angry world,

And the storms that long ago

Your words inhabited.

Beyond the walls

That darken all your world

Lies the sunlight,

Glimpsed and then forgotten.

And the hands of rival players,

Extended not in judgement

But in friendship,

And in hope of some collaboration.

The wreckage that you treasure,

Endless in its misery,

Binds you to your tragedy,

Yet the hope you have abandoned

Is not lost -

For every player must tread

Sometime a brighter stage.
