Seasons and Cherry Trees

Does winter fade

Within your garden,

As it does in mine,

Oh dearest ghost?

Does springtime light

Bring flowers back,

Or do the winter storms

Retain their fury?

Do vines obscure

The cherry trees,

And do their branches

Remain ever barren?

Does darkness still

Veil tales of old

In bitter cloak

Of bleak imagination?

Do you keep

The winter in,

And hold the springtime

Back from ever coming?

Can deepest bitterness

Fly from your groves,

Or fresher light

Bring back forgotten warmth?

Oh dearest ghost,

How long I tried,

And though the winter

Seems yet so strong,

My hope has not yet faded.
